Game Audio Headphone Review

Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro (32 Ohms)

Game Audio Headphones Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 32 ohm

Beyerdynamic has been perfecting their pro audio products since 1924, which is worth mentioning since so headphone companies are entering the market. Their DT 770 Pro headphones were first released in the 1980s and have been refined over 30 years. They feature a closed-back design and are offered as three different models, 32, 80 and 200 ohms. This review will cover the 32 ohm model. These receive continous praise online and in print media.

The DT770 Pro has a reputation for mission-critical studio situations. The first thing I noticed as how well built they feel. The earpads and headband are large and comfortable and although super light, they feel sturdy and well built. Durability is key for continued, daily use . The earpad shape is a perfectly circle large and encloses the ear completely. These win the isolation category and really do well to block out loud environments

These sound the most neutral of every 32 ohm headphone I've reviewed on here thus far. Each pair seems to favor a certain frequency but the DT 770 Pro 32 ohm isn't trying "wow" you right out of the box. They reproduce frequencies anywhere between 5 and 35,000 Hz without fail. i did notice a nice separation with certain instruments really sitting in their space. When playing a wide variety of audio content on my android, these rose to the challenge. Playing Pocket Mortys was a pleasure to hear through the DT 770 Pros.

Headphone Specs DT770Pro 32 ohm

All of Beyerdynamic headphones are handmade in Germany and the core of the sound is their neodymium magnets. An impedance rating of 32 ohm means you'll be able to plug these into pro audio interfaces like the Apollo Twin, RME Babyface etc. and monitor with greater accuracy. The jack impedance on many pro and consumer devices is 32 Ohms, making this DT770 Pro an accurate real-world reference. When your speakers are one inch from your ears, it's super important to get as accurate as possible. Audiophiles are obsessive about matching gear specs and you should be too. Most consumer listening devices hover around 32 Ohm or less.

Conclusion

The box for the DT 770 Pro 32 ohm headphones reads "The Legend" and 30 years of development actually earned the right to say that. All headphones are colored to an extent, so it's important to be able to calibrate them in real time. Sonarworks plans on support these later in 2016, which means you'll be able to flatten them. This allows you to instantly toggle between normal and flattened response, in real time. One thing is for certain, these DT 770 Pro 32 ohm absolutely dominate the close-backed category at $200 and below.
